Verify Mechanical Comprehension Skilled Technology

The SHL Verify Range of Ability Tests is a suite of cognitive ability assessments appropriate for candidates at a wide range of job levels. Relevant to many technical roles, the Mechanical Comprehension test is designed to measure a candidate’s understanding of basic mechanical principles and their application to devices such as pulleys, gears and levers. Typically used for production, manufacturing or engineering-related recruitment or development, the test is often deployed to assess school leaver suitability for modern apprenticeship schemes, the practical application abilities of science and technology graduates or those with work experience looking to move to a technical role.

This test measures ability to sort names in alphabetical order. Test takers are shown a graphical display of four folder tabs -- three contain alphabetized names and one is blank. The test taker is required to select the name from a list that belongs on the blank tab.

This test is designed to measure ability to enter numbers using a numeric keypad. Test takers are instructed to enter data into fields using a numeric keypad on their keyboard; the number keys at the top of the keyboard are disabled. The test measures for accuracy and speed.

This is the same as the multiple choice version of the test but is administered in short answer form. It measures ability to correctly spell words in written communication and covers plurals, prefixes, suffixes, abbreviations, and common errors.

Business Vocabulary

This assessment identifies the ability to correctly identify words common in business communications. In this test, the test taker reads a sentence containing a highlighted word. The test taker is required to select the synonym of the highlighted word from a list of four choices. This test is available in US English and UK English.
